Kasia at Mogast 2024

Mogast is a grassroots cycling event organized by a group of Italian, German, and German-Italian friends, notably supported by our friends at Cicli Bonanno from Berlin. The get-together is centered around climbing the three iconic passes of Mortirolo, Gavia, and Stelvio in one day. Gramm team rider Kasia joined for her second year in a row. We caught up with her to find out about her experience in the Italian Alps…

Dear Kasia, this is the second time you’ve joined Mogast. What made you want to rejoin this year?

I’d been hearing about the elusive Mogast from different friends over the years. While I was traveling in Italy with a friend last year, I spontaneously decided to join him and others in the “Amore Grande” of Mogast. Upon arriving in Tirano, I met many familiar faces and it felt like a reunion on bikes.  By the end of the event, I knew I was coming back.

This year, the new gravel track added some pepper to the traditional Mogast recipe.
Please, tell us about the landscapes and your experience riding?

Last year’s Mogast was my first time in the Alps, and I was amazed. It was so beautiful, mountains and lakes and rivers all around. It was like riding through a postcard. This year's gravel track looped around an alpine lake, and it offered countless sweeping views, flowing gravel paths, enchanting waterfall crossings, and some singletrack to top it off.

The lake itself was stunning, and us flatlanders appreciated a break from climbing for a minute. But getting to the  lake was tough. Imagine a steep and loose gravel path on the side of a mountain—my heart was pounding hard not only from the effort.  It was a lovely day out with my friend, team mate and fellow Grambassador Maya, and I’m happy I got to see another part of this incredible area.

Mogast is about more than just the beautiful passes. Which highlights besides the cycling stood out to you this year?

On the day before the main ride, a huge thunderstorm came through the village and a few tents were blown away and people’s belongings were soaked. The participants swiftly helped each other in the form of gear and alternative sleeping arrangements. The party moved indoors, which was a great way to mingle!
